::MECIDS Work to Battle Avian Influenza in the Region

As avian influenza (.bird flu.) reaches the Mediterranean region.and with it, fears that the disease could infect humans.the region.s ability to deal with a human influenza pandemic climbs higher on the list of global priorities. Over the last three years, the Middle East Consortium on Infectious Disease Surveillance (MECIDS) has built an infrastructure in the region to help nations cooperate in managing disease outbreaks and now it has taken on Avian Influenza.
Recognizing our value in building this infrastructure, the Ministries of Health of Israel, Jordan, Egypt, and Palestine convened a conference on pandemic influenza preparedness at which they worked on coordinating their national disease surveillance and control measures and agreed on ways to assist each other in the event of an influenza outbreak. The conference took place December 11-14 in Istanbul, Turkey.Read meeting report
